Upcoming Offerings

Clay Heirlooms with Kate Martens7-9pm, Wednesday, August 5 & Wednesday, August 12

Join local artist and educator Kate Martens for a two-evening adult clay workshop at Mast Landing Brewery. Participants will create a hand-built ceramic wall piece inspired by family, home, and the small details that create meaning and identity: flowers from your childhood backyard, a favorite symbol, a beloved family pet, a personal mantra, or another concept of which you feel called to create a physical manifestation.
In the first class, you’ll roll out a slab and shape, texture, and border your piece. After bisque firing, you’ll return for the second class to add color, decoration, and text with underglaze and glaze. The finished product will be a personal ceramic keepsake to hang in your home for years to come. No clay experience needed.
Taught by Kate Martens at the beautiful upstairs event space at Mast Landing Brewery. 16 participants max.$150 for both classes: includes a drink each class and all supplies.

About

Hi, I'm Anna Child - the heart behind Parfait.I'm a Freeport resident who didn’t grow up crafting with plants or playing by the water’s edge. My childhood and teen years unfolded in the bustling cities of Seoul and Tokyo — places that couldn’t feel more different from coastal Maine, yet shaped my love of culture, creativity, and new ways of living.I earned my MPH from UNC Chapel Hill and spent nearly fifteen years working in food systems. I founded Core Sound Seafood, a community-supported seafood business, and later worked with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in international fisheries. In 2015, when I became a mother, my life shifted in beautiful, hard and unexpected ways. Five months after my first daughter was born, my husband and I took a leap of faith and moved to Maine. The transition was difficult, but after making it through my first long winter, I fell in love with Maine's storybook charm, wild beauty, and the rhythm of its seasons. We settled in Freeport in 2017, and it’s now the community I’m so grateful to call home.I’ve always been interested in education, but watching my three daughters enter school expanded that passion. I’ve worked at a Montessori school, Friends School of Portland, Maine Coast Waldorf School, and volunteered in our community schools. I hold a certification from Sophia's Hearth in the Foundations of the first three years.Through Parfait, I bring together my love of creativity, play, and community — and find deep joy in watching children explore, make, and grow through the creative process.

Hello! I’m Kate Martens, and I’m so looking forward to joining the Parfait team as an Art Educator.I grew up in Pownal and moved back to Maine two years ago after twenty years away. It feels like such a gift to raise my children in a place with so much space, beauty, and everyday inspiration.I studied studio art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and child development and art history at Tufts University. In my twenties, I lived and taught in Ghana, Costa Rica, Seoul, Singapore, and Boston, and completed my Ed.M. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. After more than a decade of teaching full-time, I stepped away from the art classroom when I had my first child.Over the past seven years, I’ve welcomed two more children and built a small art business—stocking retail stores and museum shops with tiny ceramic gnomes and mushrooms, taking on the occasional public art project, and maintaining a (slow but steady) painting practice with a handful of commercial clients.I’m so excited to bring my love of playful making to Parfait and to help create unique workshops for kids.
